Over the past 14 months, more people have become aware of how much manufacturing supply chains impact their lives. At the start of the pandemic, we ran out of toilet paper and PPE; now car manufacturing is stalled because the world is short of semiconductor chips; and a freighter that got stuck in the Suez Canal at end of March is still wreaking havoc. Then this week, four states declared states of emergency due to gas shortages after hackers shut down Colonial Pipeline.

Nada Sanders, distinguished professor of supply chain management at Northwestern University, helps make sense of what is happening with supply chains and what we can expect going forward.
