Queen Elizabeth II prepares for surprise Commonwealth tour while Harry takes time off | Royal | News
The Queen could be set to go on a surprise tour of the Commonwealth – all from the comfort of her home. ABC royal contributor Omid Scobie told his podcast The Heirpod the Queen could be set to go on a series of international engagements virtually this summer. This comes as the Queen was seen on Wednesday when she gave her first in-person public appearance of the year to mark the centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in Runnymede, Surrey.
ABC News foreign correspondent Maggie Rulli told Mr Scobie the in-person royal events signal the end of the pandemic for many in the UK.
She added: “But, I am going to miss the Queen on Zoom.
“I found her absolutely endearing on her Zoom calls and in some ways it felt even more intimate, so sometimes I hope they include Zoom calls in her future.
“She was so genuine on so many of her calls, it was fun to see that side as well.”

Mr Scobie responded: “As we move towards in-person engagements again, we are going to start feeling that distance with the Royal Family again.
“We were able to get a little closer to members of the Royal Family during the lockdown.
“The move to video calls brought more intimate styles. I’m sure we will see more of that.
“It also suits the Queen very well, who hasn’t been able to travel in recent years, and has passed that onto other members of the Royal Family.
She has rarely left the grounds of Windsor Castle since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
On Wednesday, Her Majesty appeared in high spirits as she went maskless during her visit to the Air Forces memorial in Runnymede.
The persistent work ethic of the Queen comes amid news her grandson Prince Harry expects to “take some proper time off” this summer.
A source close to Harry and Meghan Markle told Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl the couple wants to spend “real quality time together” after the birth of their daughter.
